[Patience, Stahn, patience. With each day, Leon changes a little more, though he'd hate to admit it and though it's something that even he doesn't always notice or realize. Change is a difficult and scary thing, especially for someone like Leon who has only known one single thing all his life.
He hates Hugo, and he hates Hugo's teachings, but it's not so easy to shake them when it comes down to it.
Still... he does frown at the words. They are argumentative words, though Stahn's tone is nothing of the sort, and the contrast is difficult for Leon to process. What is Stahn even going for here...?
(And why does it make him uncomfortable when Stahn says things like that? He should be over this.)]
... That is all the more reason to not do something. [But it's just muttered shortly, mostly under his breath. Remember, Stahn? He hates people like you!! Duh!!! Why should he care that it matters to you???
(He cares, it's frustrating.)
So he's just...going to stand there awkwardly, caught between a rock and a hard place. He doesn't feel like he should leave at this point--he doesn't feel like he can. But he doesn't want to go to the couch and give in and watch this movie, either. He's Struggling.]
[muttered or not, stahn does hear it. while his back is still turned, he frowns a bit; it really is the same tired excuse leon's been using for ages. even if he doesn't say it in as many words, it's such an empty statement at this point.
stahn is pretty used to it, though. he's used to the fact that leon won't admit when stahn is right out loud, or that they're actually friends. regardless, they're friends, he'll always stand by that sort of statement. and all the same, he won't ever force leon to admit those things, or try to make him verbalize anything of the sort. all stahn really wants from a situation like this is a little less derision towards the idea of actually enjoying himself like anyone else would.
so of course it matters to stahn.
but hearing a response like that is also the reminder for stahn to call back his own feelings when they're starting to spill over. what he wants for leon can't be forced. it'll only make him angry, so stahn just drops the argument. maybe that's doing exactly what he's trying to get away from in letting leon slide but he doesn't want a fight right now.
plan b.
plan b is...
well, the classic stahn approach, even if it's a little more subdued than it would have been a few months ago.]
We still have a few minutes before the food's supposed to be here. [he'll plop down lazily on the couch and offer leon a smile, as if those things hadn't fazed him at all. he turns on the tv anyway, waiting a moment so that ceresflix will load, and he continues his thought.] You can, at least, sit here while we're waiting for it, right?
[there. at the very least, leon won't have much reason to leave, and it absolves him from having to stand awkwardly without actually committing to the idea of a while movie.]

[He doesn't really have a reason to sit on the couch while waiting for their food, but... it's not like holing up in his room all alone is going to make him feel better either. He's pretty well and truly sick of his room by now.
There's a long, lingering pause as he considers Stahn's words--and then he sighs.
Really. Really, he didn't ever have another option, and this is just Stahn making the excuse work for him, but for now he'll take it, moving to sit on the couch (but as far away from Stahn as he can be while being on the same couch), crossing his arms.]
[maybe it's just a poor excuse, but the fact that leon takes it at all—even while undoubtedly knowing that's all it is—that's enough for now.]
Just until the food gets here. You'd have to come back out here anyway, right? [so it is technically still a matter of convenience.
—even if stahn really does just want leon to stick around and watch the movie with him. either way, he's pressing the play button on the remote, which will start the movie's opening sequence.
it doesn't take much to draw stahn in, either, since he's never watched a movie like this before.]
[For his part, Leon doesn't look particularly invested from the get go. He props his elbow on the arm of the couch, using it as a rest for his cheek, the picture of boredom.
But he does watch, if only because there's nothing else to do. He's not really sure what to make of it at first, but.... well. It's a thing that's happening, and he does sort of want to know what's going to happen next....
[stahn, on the other hand, is super into it from the get-go. the plot is engaging and easy to follow, but there are plenty of mysteries and even more suspense. it's a healthy blend of explosive action and mystery, which pins it right up his alley.
so stahn is focused, so much so that he initially doesn't even realize that leon is paying attention... or that the food is a little late to arrive. so when the doorbell has finally rung, they've made it through a good 25 minutes.]
Ah! [the sound commands his attention enough to pull stahn from the movie, and he's quick to pause it. he looks over to leon for the first time since he started the movie, and he grins.] I guess the food's here! Hold on, I'll go get it.
[Oh thank god the food is here. Leon's ready to go get it (it'll give him an excuse to leave, really) except then he doesn't, because Stahn jumps up to do it instead, and Leon settles back onto the couch. Fine. He'll just wait.
But he's only waiting for the food, not because he's interested in the movie!!!
[it's not even like stahn did that to force leon into staying; he really only did it because he's the one who ordered the food. he's just taking responsibility for his actions here.
once he closes the door, he makes a stop in the kitchen to get forks (he's prepared to combat leon's derision towards plastic utensils) before making his way back to the sofa. after a minute of rummaging through the bag to separate everything, he hands the container and a fork to a leon with a grin.]
There! I hope it's good. [he doesn't want leon to not enjoy his meal, especially when he's not sure if leon would like what stahn ordered for himself.
(the cake is still in the bag—obviously, the surprise dessert must wait.)]
[Leon is the one who picked it, so if he doesn't like it, the only one he has to blame is himself--
But he just makes an acknowledging noise and accepts it, poking at the food immediately with his fork. It smells good enough, so that's a good start...........
Leon still isn't moving though.
The couch is comfortable and now he has his food so. So!!]
[this is fine. stahn doesn't hit the play button again just yet, mostly so he can get a few bites of food and not be distracted one way or the other. it has surprisingly little to do with the fact that leon hasn't left yet.
(maybe because he knows that leon won't leave, despite his protests)]
Mmm! Oh, it's really good! Tasty! [okay, so maybe stahn is a little excited about his first bites of the unagidon. but it's really, really good. so naturally, as a gesture of kindness, he holds the container out towards leon.]
Do you want to try it? [he's pretty sure he knows the answer, but stahn's gonna stahn.]
okay, here leon... you win the grand prize of some legitimately stunned by this. mouth agape, eyes wide—he really was expecting leon to just refuse like he always does.
things breaking the normal cycle is enough to give him temporary stuned bsod.]
[oh. that ended up... surprisingly not as volatile as he would have expected. sometimes it's pretty hard to tell what leon will or won't like, but the look on his face indicates that he doesn't hate it.
that's good.
and he's not making a big deal out of it so stahn wonders if he should just let that go. yes, this is fine... even there's a small smile creeping on his lips as he takes another bite of his food and reaches over to press play on the remote again.]
[Letting it go was probably safest, so as to avoid awkward embarrassed tsunsplotions.
Instead, there's...this. This oddly vaguely peaceful dinner. Leon mostly focuses on his dinner, but he can't help the way that his eyes flick to the TV for particularly loud or action-y sequences--or for the really, really emotional moments, even if his expression remains as flat and calm as ever.
There's something distracting about them nonetheless.]
they don't have too many moments of real peace. back home, even before everything went to shit, they were always too busy with handling the mission that peaceful nights were marred by duty. here in cerealia, they've been thrown into a lot more uncertain circumstances, and so much more fighting because of how much they have to deal with.
a night like this is welcome, where everything is peaceful. they're not fighting, it's really just the opposite.
stahn's getting pretty into the movie as he eats, sometimes even stopping with his mouth agape from all the twists and turns. the plot is pretty crazy, the action scenes are explosive and honestly... it's so cool. naturally, when they get to a major plot twist about the protagonist's identity, he's amazed.]
Whoa, no way... [he didn't see it coming, okay? though at this point it's hard to tell if the twist will be worth anything or if it's just bad writing. he doesn't care though, it was cool!]
Leon can't say he saw the twist coming, but not because it was a good twist so much as because it came out of nowhere and the writing is that bad. So at Stahn's wide-eyed amazement, Leon just snorts quietly under his breath even as he focuses on his meal.
It's... kind of silly, really.
Of course Stahn is so impressed by something that's really so....silly.]
[leon is me talking about certain other mothership tales games, probably.]
But can't there be something later that explains it? It doesn't seem like it's that bad! [it's only when you get to the end of the movie and you realize that they dropped the plotline that explains the twist that it becomes bad writing. obviously!!
(or stahn just doesn't know any better, because the flashy action sequences distract him from the bad writing..)]
But Leon just arches an eyebrow at that, before shaking his head in exasperation and turning his attention back to the food.]
The situation has been poorly explained from the beginning. For what purpose are they fighting over these things? Why was she in this situation to begin with, and how did she get from the previous scene to here? There was no indication that she should have been able to travel that far to begin with.
As for the protagonist, his story is entirely full of holes.
[yeah, stahn's definitely scrunching his nose a bit at that response. of course leon would pick apart every little thing. most of it are things stahn honestly didn't think about.
but still, isn't it a little nit-picky?]
Shouldn't we at least see the end first? There's still time for them to explain some of those things! [maybe not all of them, but like. seriously, leon. it's an action-mystery movie, not fine art.]
